Procurement & Usage Tips (FAQ)
1. What should I check when purchasing DTF pigment ink?
Ensure the ink is specifically formulated for DTF (Direct to Film) printing, not standard sublimation or eco-solvent ink. Verify compatibility with your printer model and printhead type (e.g., EPSON XP600, i3200). Check that the ink includes the necessary white pigment layer capability, as DTF relies on white ink for dark fabric transfer. Also request a color profile and ink stability test report from the supplier.
2. How does DTF pigment ink differ from sublimation ink?
DTF ink works on a wider range of fabrics including cotton, polyester, blends, denim, and leather, without requiring polymer coating. Unlike sublimation which dyes the fabric fibers, DTF ink bonds to the fabric surface via hot-melt adhesive powder. Key differences: DTF uses white ink, requires a powder shaker and curing oven, and produces a soft yet durable film layer on the fabric.
3. What are the proper storage and handling requirements?
Store DTF pigment ink in a cool, dark place at 15–30°C (59–86°F). Avoid freezing or direct sunlight. Shake white ink bottles thoroughly before each use, as pigment particles tend to settle. Do not mix DTF ink with other ink types. Keep ink cartridges or bulk bags sealed when not in use to prevent contamination or drying. Recommended shelf life: 12 months from production date.
4. What application tips ensure the best transfer results?
Use a high-quality PET film designed for DTF. Apply hot-melt adhesive powder evenly while the ink is still wet. Cure the powder at the recommended temperature (typically 150–170°C for 2–3 minutes) before storage. For transfer: press at 150–170°C for 10–15 seconds with medium pressure. Peel the film cold (after cooling to room temperature) for best adhesion and soft hand feel. Wash test: wait 24 hours before first wash.
